Mobil Oil Corporation, commonly known as Mobil, is a historic American petroleum brand with roots dating back to the 19th century. Originally founded as the Vacuum Oil Company in 1866, it became part of Standard Oil in 1879. After the breakup of Standard Oil in 1911, it merged with the Standard Oil Company of New York in 1931, eventually becoming Mobil Oil Corporation in 1966. In 1999, Mobil merged with Exxon, and it continues to operate as a key brand within ExxonMobil.
Mobil is well-known for its range of petroleum products, including high-performance motor oils and lubricants, with Mobil 1 being a flagship synthetic motor oil. The company markets gasoline and diesel fuels through its service stations, often featuring convenience stores branded as On the Run. Mobil also produces aviation fuels and has introduced several industry innovations, such as pay-at-the-pump technology. Mobil serves a diverse customer base, including individual motorists, commercial clients, and the aviation industry, providing essential fuels and lubricants worldwide.
